Youth Sailing

The HISC Youth Sailing Program was created to provide sailing and boating safety training to children between the ages of 8 and 18. In the past 25+ years we are proud to have trained hundreds of children in small boat handling and safety issues. The HISC Youth Sailing Program is staffed with sailing and organization specialists who are all volunteering their time and effort to enhance the sport of sailing and to provide invaluable experience and training to children. The Program is open to anyone who fits the age requirement and can pass a simple swimming evaluation. Safety is the most important issue in our Program therefore each child is required to wear a USCG approved life vest and a safety lecture begins each meeting. During the instructional sailing on the lake, HISC instructors use small rowboats to provide on the water training and an enhanced level of safety. The children sail small one person type boats including: International Optimist Pram, Sunfish, and Laser. These boats were selected because of safety and ease of instruction, the Optimist Pram is the largest sailing class in the world and is considered to be the premier training platform.

Participant must have closed toe water shoes, life vest, water and sunsceen, but most importantly the desire to go sailing.

We will be launching near the Splash Adventure Park in the Southern most lake.  When you enter the park, after the kiosks take a left and proceed to the Splash Adventure Park past the Main Office.

Please email us at hiscyouthsailing@gmail.com to confirm participation or ask any questions.  Cost for non-members is $75 per 4 week session.

Please print this permission slip and bring to your first class.

The main purpose of our program is to teach safe sailing skills, water safety and to have fun with the great sport of sailing. We look forward to seeing many of the returning students and any new students who would like to come and enjoy the water. Hopefully, it will warm up a little bit before we have to make you perform your swim test. lol

We want to always thank all of the volunteers and parents that make this great program a success!!! Without them, we would be half as great as we are and would have no yutes to put on the water.

Many of our young sailors have gone on to perform at the next level. While not quite at the Olympic level, they have raced at the top of many classes and fleets all over the region. Some are considered top sailors, with exemplary skills on all types of boats, from foredeck to helm!

For any questions please contact us at hiscyouthsailing AT gmail DOT com. We are always here for any questions. See you on the water soon, and ALWAYS be safe. Wear floatation, have a plan and have FUN.

Fees are $75 for all 4 lessons, and are applicable towards Hillsboro Inlet Sailing Club membership dues. You can see more information about our club at www.hisc.org
