The HISC has conducted the Ladies’ Day race from practically the beginning of the club. Our founding year was 1971 and it was reported that Janet Gillis won the Ladies’ Day race of 1972. She went on to be the 5 th Commodore in 1975. It should be noted that a boat can have one male member aboard, to act as a coach, if desired. Many of the participating boats are 100% female. There is a huge after-race party where the men supply the food. Many of the party dishes are actually prepared from scratch by the male “chef.”
