HISC Beach Committee

Nearly all of the club races start between a mark in the water and the Beach Committee that is setup on the beach, just over a mile or so north from the Hillsboro Inlet.

The Beach Committee are all club members who volunteer their time, enjoy the fellowship of other members and actively participate in the Race Start and Finish activities.  There's a lot for the Beach Committee to do to ensure that the races run smoothly, start at the appropriate time and finish correctly. The start of every race is one of the most hectic moments on the water, so it is critical that the Beach Committee be organized and plugged into the race.

Beach Committee is a great way to meet other members and to get an introduction to racing without having to be aboard a boat. The Beach Committee talks the boats through the starting sequence with the final START! being the crucial moment. From the Beach Committee you can see how the various boats approach the start challenge. Plus, the Beach Committee spends a beautiful day on the beach, watching the boats racing. The residents of the Condo that we run our races from join us to watch the beauty of the boats racing.

Our Beach Committee core volunteers are Norm Glanz and Gretchen & David Burdett. We are limited to the number of people we can have at the beach, so it's important that anyone that wishes to join us at the Beach Committee contacts us before the event to make sure we have openings. The cast of the Beach Committee changes each race so please contact us to find a date for you to join us. The Beach Committee emphasis will be on welcoming New Members, but anyone is welcome.

If you would like to find out more about the Beach Committee, where and when they meet, please contact our Race Committee Chair Astrid Hunton

Hope to see you out there.
