2023 Racing program in Full Swing
The 2023 racing season is in full swing, and we have some exciting news. As I write this, the 67 th annual Miami Key Largo race is taking place under sunny skies and about 10 knots of wind from the south. That means the fleet is going upwind and therefore tactics play a significant role in the race. Duet, Imagine, Lady Grey, Swansong, Exit Strategy, Third Tri 2 and TriPolar are representing HISC. It is bound to be competitive since there are 79 boats registered for this race but have no doubt that we will come back with a few trophies.
Coming up on May 6 th is another exiting race – the HISC/PBSC regatta! We start the program with a skipper’s meeting (and party) on Friday at 5:00 pm on lake Boca where we gather to size up the competition and enjoy some burgers. Saturday morning, we all head up to the start line where we will be split into four classes (ARC, JAM, GNK and MUL), with the first one starting at 10:00 am. This is normally a long reach of about 30 miles where some boats hug the coast and others go far offshore to catch the gulf current. We will anchor off the PBSC and a launch service will be available. The bar will open at 4:30 pm for those that finish early. Dinner will be served at 6:00 pm followed by awards at 7:00 pm and live music at 7:30pm. If past races are any indication, the Palm Beach Sailing Club really goes out of their way to provide excellent food and music, so don’t forget to purchase your food ticket ($30 before May 1 st ) at their web site https://pbsail.org/regatta/JOBJzIUXKI.
On other news, the couples race was postponed to Sunday, May 21 st to give enough time for skippers to convince their mates to join them in this fun race.
