Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions
1. Governing Rules:
This race is governed by the 2025-2028 Racing Rules of Sailing except as modified by the HISC General Sailing Instructions and this Notice of Race.
2. Eligibility:
This race is open to all HISC Members who have completed and signed the HILLSBORO INLET SAILING CLUB OFFICIAL ENTRY FORM for the 2025 racing season and have an assigned HISC Rating.
3. Fleets and Starting Times:
There may be up to 3 sections of racing boats. The sections and starting times are as follows (subject to postponements or other alterations):

Section assignments will be communicated prior to the start.
All sections will be scored using a modified PHRF rating. No specialty sails are allowed.
4. Engine use during racing:
Engines must be turned off at or prior to the preparatory signal and remain off for the duration of the race except as provided for in these instructions and the RRS. As per Rule 42.3(i) of the RRS a boat is allowed to use an engine or other propulsion method ONLY if said boat:
a. enters the marked beach swim area during prep or immediately after the start and
b. is unable to immediately exit the swim area under sail power alone
PROVIDED
c. use of the engine does not provide said boat with a significant racing advantage.
Boats making use of this provision must immediately contact the race committee who will in their sole judgement assess whether the use was allowable. Failure to contact the race committee or disallowed engine use will subject the yacht to disqualification.
5. Marks and courses:
There are two possible racecourses – The LONG course and the SHORT course. The race committee will communicate which course will be used for this race prior to the starting time. The course selection will determine the location for the SOUTH MARK. All other marks remain the same.
THE START: The starting line will be between an orange inflatable buoy, and a swim buoy located approximately 1.5 miles north of Hillsboro inlet (the former 2024 HISC starting area) A committee boat may be on station for the start.
Start in a southerly direction and proceed to the SOUTH MARK, passing east of the “HI” sea buoy.
• Leave “HI” buoy to Starboard when Southbound
• Leave “HI” buoy to Port when Northbound
Round the SOUTH MARK to port and then return to the Finish, again remaining east of the “HI” buoy
o THE SHORT COURSE: The Short course South Mark is a virtual point located in the vicinity of the Commercial Blvd. pier, in about 145 ft of water, at or near the following coordinates:
If using degrees & minutes- N 26° 11.35’ – W 80° 4.00’
If using seconds - N 26° 11’ 21” – W 80° 4’ 00”
o THE LONG COURSE: The Long Course South Mark is the Port Everglades outer sea buoy “PE” located near N26 05.505 W80 04.77
THE FINISH: Finish in a northerly direction between the inflatable buoy and the swim buoy (Starting Line). Record your own finish time and report it to the race committee as prescribed below.
DO NOT sail west of the swim buoys. Maintain a distance of at least 300 feet from dive flags. Boats violating these rules will be subject to disqualification.
The selected racecourse will be announced by the Race Committee approximately 15 minutes prior to the start of the race.
6. Time Limit:
Any boat not completing the racecourse by 1630 will be scored DNF.
7. Race/ Beach Committee:
• Beach Committee or Race Committee will communicate with the Racers on VHF channel 68
• All boats will be required to report to the Race Committee on channel 68 prior to the start of the race. Be prepared to report your boat name and sail number when requested by the Race Committee.
• Competitors are asked to monitor VHF 68 continuously while racing. Course modifications or other important announcements may be made throughout the race.
• There will not be a committee boat or beach committee on station at the finish. Call or text your boat’s name, sail number and finish time to Astrid Hunton at 954-448-6666 before 1700.
8. Awards:
HISC/Modified PHRF Base rating will be used to determine corrected time. (Modified PHRF rating is the rating on the PHRF certification or rating given by HISC handicapper)
